Artist Biography
Muto Yuki began studying piano at the age of three. From early childhood, she studied under Ms. Yasuko Nishimura and later advanced to Osaka University of Arts. During her university years, she refined her classical piano technique under Ms. Mayumi Yamada.
At the same time, she studied jazz piano with Professor Hideki Chika and Mr. Satoru Ajimine, and continues to deepen her exploration of jazz and improvisational performance.
In her third year of high school, she received the Overall Runner-Up Grand Prize at the light music competition Sneaker Ages. From her university years onward, she began performing actively, working as vocalist, composer, and keyboardist in the three-piece band Merkel Meriken. Through live house performances, self-produced events, and regular appearances at the music festival Biwako Jazz Higashiomi, she has gained extensive stage experience.
While attending university, she also formed the duo snowish with a highly regarded vocalist, engaging in original music production and performing at ticketed live shows with strong audience turnout.
In November 2024, she formed a jazz piano trio and is currently active with the goal of performing at jazz festivals, while producing original compositions. She has extensive experience providing piano and keyboard support for both band and solo projects, and is highly regarded for accompaniment in Japanese popular songs (from the Showa to Heisei eras) as well as Western music from the 1960s to the 1990s.
She is also deeply involved in composition and arrangement, having produced numerous original works. Notably, she has served as the arranger for songs by the artist Akimichi Yoru, handling full-scale arrangements.
Her performance style is highly versatile, ranging from expressive piano-forward playing to supportive backing that enhances vocals. With strengths in R&B, soul, jazz, pop, funk, and fusion, she is frequently praised by vocalists for providing performances that are “easy to sing with and offer a strong sense of security.”
