A milestone celebration for the children
The other day, we had the opportunity to present a picture book live performance and rhythm-based activities at the center.
It was a warm, home-like facility where the staff welcomed us with bright smiles. On that day, children ranging from elementary school to high school age gathered to enjoy the program together.
During the picture book live performance, music was played at intervals, and songs were sung at key moments in the story. We were delighted to see the children respond to the sounds, and during joyful scenes, both the children and staff joined in by clapping their hands along with the sound of tambourines.
After approximately 30 minutes of the picture book live performance, we moved on to rhythm activities. We began with a tapping exercise using fingertip movements to help the children engage with the rhythm. Although it was their first time trying this activity, everyone followed the rhythm beautifully, tapping along with great enthusiasm.
Next, we enjoyed rhythm play using “Kids Jazz,” which features jazz arrangements of familiar anime songs and traditional children’s songs. Through these activities, we were able to share a lively and engaging musical experience with all the participants.
They spent the time joyfully, tapping along to the music with enthusiasm, and smiling brightly whenever they recognized a familiar song. It was wonderful to see such a variety of expressions as they enjoyed the experience.
On our way out, one of the high school-aged participants that day said to me, “I had never listened to jazz before, but hearing it for the first time, I really liked it.” His words meant a great deal to me and made the day even more special.
