Outdoor performance of traditional Japanese instruments, centered on taiko drums, held in a public park

和太鼓を中心とした和楽器演奏を屋外公園で開催

We presented a garden concert at an open-air, roofed pavilion within Oizumi Ryokuchi Park, timed to coincide with the park’s evening illumination. The setting allowed guests to enjoy the performance comfortably while being immersed in the beautifully lit natural surroundings.

For this event, we were honored to collaborate with the traditional Japanese music ensemble KOMA. Although the weather forecast had predicted clear skies, the conditions became uncertain from the morning, and rain began to fall before noon. As the venue was an open-air space with a roof, we decided to proceed as planned, preparing carefully so the event could go ahead even in the rain. During the setup of the taiko drums, we took extra measures such as covering the instruments with cloths to protect them from getting wet.

The event was able to start on schedule; however, shortly after it began, a heavy downpour suddenly set in. With no option to stop, we continued the performance as planned. Remarkably, the rain eased after about ten minutes, and no further rain followed for the rest of the program.

It was almost as if the powerful resonance of the taiko drums had silenced the sky itself. Despite the cold weather, the audience stayed throughout and appeared warmly moved by the performance, creating a memorable and heartfelt evening.

和太鼓演奏

The performance lasted 60 minutes and featured not only powerful taiko drumming, but also Tsugaru shamisen, traditional folk songs, and Yosakoi-style singing and dancing. The program was thoughtfully structured to be highly entertaining throughout, offering a dynamic and engaging experience for the audience.
